About RSPB HDX 10x42 Binoculars

The RSPB HDX 10x42 Binoculars (product 49569000096051) deliver 10x magnification through a 42mm objective lens. That pairing gives you a 113m field of view at 1000m and an exit pupil of 4.2mm solid performance for birdwatching and wildlife watching in good to moderate light. At 660g they are one of the lightest 42mm roof prism binoculars available and the compact body with a narrow bridge lets you hold them comfortably in one hand.

The optics use ED glass objective lenses to reduce chromatic aberration and keep colour accurate. Phase coated roof prisms combined with SHR (super high reflective) coatings push contrast and clarity well above standard binoculars. Fully multicoated optics across all air-to-glass surfaces maximise light transmission for sharper brighter images.

The body is nitrogen filled and fully waterproof and fogproof. Shock resistant rubber armouring protects against knocks. Internal focusing with a close focus of just 2 - 2.5m makes them excellent for close-range subjects. Eye relief is 15.2mm. The ergonomic design keeps handling comfortable over long sessions.

A 10-year manufacturer warranty backs the build. Wide field of view, class-leading coatings, ultra-lightweight construction and genuine close focus capability make these a strong choice for serious birdwatchers.

Technical Details

The RSPB HDX 10x42 uses a roof prism design with ED glass objectives to cut chromatic aberration. Phase correction coatings on the prisms correct the light path split caused by the roof design. SHR (super high reflective) coatings then maximise reflectivity inside the prism to boost light throughput. Fully multicoated outer lenses reduce surface reflections. The 42mm objective divided by 10x magnification gives a 4.2mm exit pupil workable in low light. The 6.5° angular field of view translates to 113m at 1000m.

Materials & Construction

The body is built for low weight and uses shock resistant rubber armouring over the chassis. ED glass is used in the objective lenses to control colour fringing. Roof prisms carry phase correction and SHR coatings. The sealed construction is nitrogen filled to prevent internal fogging and moisture ingress.

Care & Cleaning

Use a blower brush then a microfibre cloth to clean lenses. Never use household cleaners on coated glass. Store in the supplied case in a dry place. Check the hinge tension and eyecup condition regularly. The 10-year warranty requires the binoculars to be kept free from misuse and physical damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 10x42 gives more reach and is better for open habitats like estuaries and moorland where birds are distant. The 8x42 has a wider field of view and steadier image which suits woodland birding and fast-moving subjects better.
The 42mm objective lens produces a 4.2mm exit pupil which is adequate for dawn and dusk use. The fully multicoated optics with SHR prism coatings maximise light transmission so images stay bright and clear in poor conditions.
The eye relief is 15.2mm which is on the shorter side for eyeglass wearers most glasses users need at least 16mm. It is worth trying them before committing if you wear glasses as individual face shape and frame style can affect the usable field of view.
Yes. The 10x magnification and 113m field of view at 1000m make them well suited to scanning open ground for birds and mammals. The close focus of 2 - 2.5m also means you can watch insects and plants at very short range without changing binoculars.
The product listing does not confirm a tripod adapter thread but most roof prism binoculars of this type have a standard tripod adapter socket under the front hinge. Check with the retailer before purchasing a tripod adapter.
Yes. The body is fully waterproof and nitrogen filled which prevents internal fogging when moving between temperature extremes. This makes them reliable in rain and cold field conditions.
Use a soft lens brush or blower to remove loose dust first then wipe gently with a microfibre cloth. Never use household cleaning products as these can damage the multicoatings use only lens cleaning fluid designed for coated optics.
The listing does not specify included accessories so contact the retailer to confirm what is supplied. The RSPB HDX 10x42 carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
